Ponorsky ZinaPONORSKY, Alphonzina "Zina" Katherine (nee UPSHAW) Ponorsky   -  Janary 28, 1928 - August 13, 2022

"To everyone there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Zina's season began on January 28, 1928, bringing much joy and blessings to parents, Wallace and Sarah Upshaw, who had already been blessed with two lovely sons.

She began her career as a permissive school teacher at Five Mile Plains School in NS. In the summer of 1954, her interest in seeing the big city of Montreal led her to make a visit to her two aunts.

Her aunts convinced her to stay for at least one year and it was during that year that she was introduced to her late husband, George Ponorsky, who was stationed at the RCAF base in Lachine, Quebec.

On August 9, 1956, they married in a lovely wedding in Windsor, NS and they say, "The rest is history." Zina was employed by Bell Canada in Montreal and following George's term of service with RCAF, they transferred to Toronto, where she would continue to work for Bell for 34 years.

During their 54 years of marriage, they were blessed to have travelled many places throughout Europe, Britain, the West Indies, and Canada.

She was a member of Walmer Road Baptist Church, Toronto, for many many years.

Zina was predeceased by her parents, Wallace and Sarah Upshaw; brothers, Illsley Upshaw and Avery Upshaw and his wife Eveline; and her husband, George Ponorsky (RCAF R146556 – September 17, 2010).

Zina is survived by her sister-in-law, Greta Upshaw of Montreal; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Zina will be sadly missed by her family and friends and her chosen daughter, Candace Sampson, in Kentville, NS.

Always thinking of others, Zina has requested, in remembrance, that donations be made to the Windsor Plains United Baptist Church, Windsor, NS. The family would like to thank the staff at Malton Village LTC Facility (Miss) for the excellent care they gave Zina.

Their support was greatly appreciated by the family. Family and friends may visit at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W. on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m., directly followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow.
