HOWEY, Frances (Nancy) Elizabeth   -   It is with sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the age of 94.

Born August 26, 1928, just before the Great Depression, and educated during World War II, these experiences built the foundation for a life lived with honour and compassion.

Bright, persistent and hardworking, Mom graduated at 16 from North Toronto Collegiate in 1945 with the Gladys Lewis Memorial Scholarship, the highest scholarship award for the graduating class.

She completed Commerce and Finance at University of Toronto, and was one of Ontario's first female CAs in 1955.

She married the love of her life on June 16, 1956. Mom worked until she was 88, and managed to complete her MBA at night with 3 daughters under the age of 15.

Mom was a dedicated volunteer, starting in 1934 at the age of 6, when she was recognized in the Toronto Star for raising money to help children go to camp. Mom continued to volunteer for countless other charitable organizations for over 80 years, until she lost her sight in 2020.

Mom was a true and loyal friend, a supportive mother to Jane, Liz (Pierre Barcik) and Ruth (Ron Beettam); and grandmother to Matthew, Benjamin, Evan, Paige, Cameron and Rachael.

Mom continued to break barriers right to the end, when at 89 she was a juror in a 7 week long murder trial.

Although we grieve our trailblazing mom, we are consoled knowing she has found her way back to our dad, Gord, who died in 1991.

Memorial donations may be made to the Scott Mission or the Charity of Your Choice.

At our Mom's request, no service will be held, but a private interment and a Celebration of Nancy's life will be arranged in the Spring.
