Keksis VeraKEKSIS, Vera (nee KALEVICS)   -   Vecauce, Latvia - Calgary, Alberta December 18, 1919 - December 9, 2022

Vera Keksis (née Kalevics) passed away peacefully in her sleep, just a few days shy of her 103rd birthday.

Predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Arnis (2005); her parents, Kriss and Alvine Kalevics; her sister, Anna; and brothers, Ernests and Didrikis.

Born during the bucolic days of Latvia's freedom and independence between the World Wars, she had to flee her beloved homeland and leave her family behind before the Russian invasion, and Soviet occupation and slaughter that decimated her homeland and it's people.

She was the the only one that made it out before the Iron Curtain slammed shut. Ever intrepid and always devoted, she made everything into an adventure.

Employed in Accounting Department 731A for 15 years at Sears in Toronto, she was retired almost three times longer than her employment. Her home and family were her life.

Love, warmth and intelligence emanated from her very being. Even when robbed of her memory by dementia in her last years, she maintained a happy and positive outlook.

Leaving behind to mourn her loss, her son, Indulis; daughter, Rudite (Murray Bell); grandchildren, Julian Arnis and Charlotte Eleanor Vera Bell of Calgary; and family and friends in Latvia, Sweden and the United States.

Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be returned to Toronto and laid to rest beside those of her beloved Arnis at York Cemetery.

The family would like to express our deepest thanks for the exceptional care she received at Intercare Brentwood in Calgary.
