KAPLANSKY, Dr. David Solomon - We are deeply saddened to announce that Dr. David Solomon Kaplansky (Shlomo David Ben Gershon Ha'Cohen) passed away on April 22, 2023.
He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family two weeks before his 99th birthday.
David lived life to the fullest, gave with all of his heart, and was a role model to so many in the way he embraced every day of his life.
He was truly one in a million! WWII Veteran, a dentist until age 80, sculptor, active community leader; David touched so many lives with his vibrancy, his curiousity and his charm.
He was the patriarch of our family and that legacy was his greatest joy.
David is now reunited with his beloved wife, Jeannette Starkman; his parents, Gershon and Sarah; and his sister, Goldie Singer.
David was a loving father to his children, Cathy and Brian; and their spouses, Frank and Nancy. He was a devoted Zaidie to Ashley, Chelsea, Jessica and Bradley; and their spouses Kari, Ryan, Matt and Alli.
He most recently shepped more nachas, becoming a Saba Raba/Ulta Zaidie to Madelyn, Myles, Maeve and Willa. David will be deeply missed by his special friend, Barb.
The family wants to thank his incredible care team, including his caregivers, Mylene and Flori; nurses, Nina and Valentina; and Doctors Marnie Howe, Jay Detsky, and Jewel Gold.
As David would always say, "if it's up to me, it is to be."
The funeral will be held at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Pardes Shalom Cemetery.
