Pecchia ClaudioPECCHIA, Claudio  - On Sunday morning, May 7, 2023, Claudio lost his struggle with Melanoma and was finally freed of these earthly bonds.

Born in 1946 in Massa Martana, Italy, to Pasquale and Celesta (Verardi), Claudio came to Canada with his family in the late 50s to begin a new life in Toronto.

While his immigrant beginnings were difficult, he loved learning and became a teacher with the TCDSB, retiring in 2002 with over 30 years of service.

Teaching ESL students became his career focus, as he understood from experience the difficulties they faced in their new lives.

Mourning his loss and missing his huge presence in this life are his dearly-loved children, Giancarlo and Emily Rose; his beloved wife and steadfast helpmate, Leidyedis; her much-loved daughter, Claudia; and his former spouse and forever-friend, Phyllis Galliani. Also mourning, are his beloved sister, Isolina Valente (late Harry); his nephew, Aldo (wife Judy, Claudio's "favourite American"); his dear nieces, Julia Valente and Vivian Valente Turajlic (husband Donny); and cousins in Italy, the US and Canada. A private service for family and close friends has taken place.

So many memories; so many stories of this amazing father, inspiring teacher and just plain good ol' friend who'd drop everything when you needed help.

Hold your own memories of Claudio in your heart – and remember to wear your hat and a good sunblock... "Vita, Vita Mia".
