MOORE, Colin Sinclair  -  92, of Etobicoke, ON, passed away at Sunnybrook Veterans' Centre, L-Wing, Toronto, on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Born October 24, 1924 in the Parry Sound District, Colin and his six siblings were raised in a remote setting off Key River.

Thanks to his father's vocation as a trapper, guide and all-round outdoorsman, Colin was no stranger to a rugged environment and particularly wise to the ways of the natural world. And, thanks to his Glaswegian mother, he was a deft hand in the kitchen too. As a result, Colin was the cook in his own family.

Through the years, a dessert the family always looked forward to were the apple dumplings, wrapped in his homemade pastry and topped with a caramel sauce that Colin also lovingly made. As many young Canadian lads did, Colin joined the army at 17. He was a radio operator on active duty with the Engineering Corps of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division in Europe, including the Normandy Campaign, from 1944 to 1945. Shortly after Colin returned from the war, he began an esteemed 40-year career with the Toronto Transit Commission. Beloved husband of the late Ruby Moore (2001).

Dear father of Ian Moore (Katherine) and Colleen Moore (Ken Kroesser). Loving grandfather of George (Nicole) Thanagan, Gibran (Diana) Neiva, Jason Neiva, Jennifer (Jason) Zarnke and Andrew Moore. He will be missed by several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Dear brother-in-law of Hazel Beuerman, Bernice McPherson, Laurene (Jim) Horan, Joanne (Clare) French, Betty McCutcheon, Bob (Marilyn) Doerr and Kathy (Gerry) Cooper. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter Judith Neiva (2009), parents Charles and Mary Moore, brothers Archie, Charles, Dave and Hugh and sisters Flora and Tib, as well as brothers-in-law Alvin Beuerman, Hugh McPherson and Case McCutcheon. The family is sincerely grateful to Veterans Affairs Canada for their immediate response when Colin and the family needed assistance.

The many nurses and doctors in both K- and L-Wings, as well as Chaplain Wes Roberts, demonstrated great compassion and palliative expertise during the time Colin was a resident.

The funeral was held on October 16, 2017 at the Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell, ON. Interment took place on a sunny autumn afternoon at McKillop Evangelical Cemetery.

"The beneficent lights dim but don't vanish. The razory edges dull, but still cut. He's gone: but you can see his tracks still, in the snow of the world." From "Praise of a Man" by Norman MacCaig.
