YAMAMOTO, Alice Oshiye (nee Matsui)  - 1936 - 2017 Alice was a kindhearted person who cared deeply for her family.

Born in Port Alberni, BC, to Yoshitaro and Misato Matsui, she was one of 11 children.

In the 1940s the Matsui's were relocated to the Tashme internment camp with Japanese Canadians during WWII.

After the war the family moved to Toronto. In 1960 she married Teruo Yamamoto, they made their home in Toronto where they raised two children. In 2004, on her mother's birthday Alice welcomed granddaughter Emily Misato into her life.

With joy in her heart she treasured her new role as Emily Misato's bachan.

Life was beautiful. With grace, dignity and courage Alice battled defiantly. She was an inspiration to so many along the way.

Peacefully with love in her hands, Alice passed on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

Predeceased by husband Teruo, Alice will be deeply missed by her daughter Wendy (Larry), son David (Ryoko), granddaughter Emily Misato, the Matsui and Yamamoto families and by her incredible friends.

Sincere gratitude to Dr. Valin, Dr. Hedley and nurse Hung Wen.

In lieu of flowers or koden, friends are invited to make donations to Victoria's Quilts Canada.
