LI, Longtang - Passed away peacefully in his 90th year at the Toronto Western Hospital, at 5 a.m. December 15, 2017, with his family by his side.
Beloved husband of Shumin Du for 63 years, father of Ming Li and Ai Li.
Survived by 2 brothers, 1 sister, many grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Longtang Li was born on April 26, 1928 in Yichuang County, Henan Province, China.
He entered Peking University to study Mathematics in 1950, where he remained as a faculty member till his retirement. He has done fundamental research in Walsh orthogonal functions, in the 1950s, which has important applications in information compression today.
As a teacher, he was recognized by many students in Peking University as one of the most impressionable teachers in their lives.
Visitation will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home & Reception Centre (3164 Ninth Line, Oakville), on Saturday, December 23rd from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
A Funeral Service will take place at Glen Oaks Funeral Home following the visitation at 12 p.m. Burial to follow.
