HEGEL, Rev. Frank Anton, S.F.M.,  - 1946 – 2017  Peacefully on Christmas Eve at Scarboro Missions, Fr. Frank Hegel went home to God.

Frank was born on November 27, 1946, and ordained to the priesthood on December 8, 1984, in Saskatoon.

He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Anne and survived by his siblings, Helene (Sander), Richard, Mary Ann, Kenneth, and Terrance, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Frank taught primary school for eight years before being appointed principal of St. Joseph's School in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

He also volunteered with Cuso International, serving in St. Kitts in the West Indies and in Botswana, Africa. In 1979, Frank joined Scarboro Missions and served in Chiclayo, Peru, until being recalled to Canada to work in the formation of new missioners.

He returned to Chiclayo in 1990 until 1993 when he began a new assignment in the Diocese of Riobamba, Ecuador, serving as pastor of Santa Faz Church. In 1997, he was appointed Rector of the diocesan Christ the Good Shepherd Seminary (Seminario Cristo Buen Pastor) and Rector of the Cathedral in Riobamba.

In 2001, he returned to Canada and the following year was appointed Treasurer of Scarboro Missions. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease several years ago, Frank continued to live an exemplary life with courage and fortitude.

There will be a wake at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27th and a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 28th at Scarboro Missions, 2685 Kingston Road, Scarborough. The Funeral Mass and Burial will take place in Saskatoon.
