JAUNZEMS, Elmars Vilis - Elmars passed away quietly on December 29, 2017 in Kristus Darzs Latvian Home, Vaughan, Ontario, at the age of 93.
We are grateful that he had family and support by his side and that the day of his passing was filled with good company and conversation.
So true to his character, regardless of age or health, Elmars's wit, creative intellect and engaging sense of humour was fascinating.
His stories throughout a life deeply long lived and at times against all odds, were and remain, inspirational. Elmars was born in Jelgava, Latvia on March 7, 1924, the son of Zanis and Anna Jaunzems.
After serving his country in the military as a young man, Elmars and his wife Herta immigrated from Latvia to build a life for their family in Canada. Together they raised their children Juris, Ivars (Moose), Rita and Sandy with love and an appreciation for all of life's blessings.
We are deeply saddened by his loss but forever enriched by the incredible man that he was. Elmars' multitude of accomplishments encompassed a long and respected career with Mason & Risch Piano Company, a mastery of fine cabinetry, talent and love for table tennis, novice, fishing and applying his acute problem solving skills to fixing absolutely anything.
Elmars was predeceased by his wife Herta after 71 years of marriage, and son Juris.
He leaves behind a growing family who will never forget him. Elmars will be honoured in a private family ceremony as per his wishes, but we will always celebrate out loud, with pride and joy, the extraordinary life of a man well loved.
