Kadar HelenKADAR, Helen (nee BEDNARIK)  - Helen died at Lakeside Long Term Care (UHN) at 4:30 p.m. on February 17, 2018 at the age of 89 while holding her granddaughter's hand.

Helen was born in Staré, county Kosice in the former Czechoslovakia.

She immigrated to Canada in 1930 with her mother Marcela Bires Bednarik (Baba), at which point she was reunited with her father George Bednarik (Zedo).

Beloved wife of the late Joseph Kadar (1927-2005) and proud mother of Marlene Kadar (1950) (Gary Penner) and the late Elliott Kadar (1953-2009) (Maria), Helen cherished her role as grandmother to her "angels" Emma (Jayson), Jacob and Leslie for whom she loved to bake and cook in Toronto and Thunder Beach.

Helen is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Pidgeon (Arthur). Helen completed her matriculation at Mimico High School and then briefly followed her dream - singing and modeling in New York City - before marrying Joe.

Helen was much loved by extraordinary Swan House PSWs and physicians and nurses at Lakeside. We are especially grateful to Head Nurse Parul, Nurse Antoinette and Social Worker Shayna Oksenberg and to devoted caregiver Lily Hansen.

Thanks also to Margo and Rachelle who made our transition both in and out of Lakeside easy.

As Shayna said, Helen "was wise, warm and loving. Everyone who met her absolutely adored her." Sincere appreciation to Susan Ehrlich and Joyce Conaty for visiting Helen with treats and stories when most needed.

Prayers will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Easter Monday, April 2nd at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, Windermere and Bloor. The family will then escort Helen to Burlington Memorial Gardens where she will be interred beside Joe and Elliott.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen's name to Sanctuary North Support Program or Lakeside Long Term Care Centre.
