VERWEY (formerly CROMBIE, nee BROWN), Marcella Joan  - March 8, 1931 – June 10, 2018

"Life began with waking up and loving my mother's face" - George Eliot Marcella passed away in the comfort of her faith at the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence, surrounded by her children after suffering a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Daughter of the late James Peter and Rita Mary Brown (nee Reid).

She was predeceased by her husband Hank in 2009 and her eldest son Gregory in 2013.

Marcella is survived by her children, Thomas (Rebecca), Susan, Lynn (Larry) and daughter-in-law Joan. She was the proud "Grandmother", "Gramma" and "Mama" of Nicole, G. Scott, Ryan, Kristy, Reid, Bryden and Avery. Great-Gramma of Kayla, Riley, Jacob, Emma, Jake and Chase. Beloved sister of Peter (Audrey deceased) and Helen (Lou deceased). "Auntie Mar" of several nieces, nephews and their families.

Marcella will be cherished forever in the hearts of family and friends.

She will be sadly missed and remembered for her deep religious faith, unconditional love of family and elegance. She was a very active and independent woman until the onset of her illness in her early 80s. While raising her family she worked for several years as the Office Manager at Ellis Packaging retiring in 1996. Her passion was spending time with her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Healthcare, Chartwell Trilogy and Cedarbrook Lodge for their care and support.

Visitation at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E., on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10 a.m., St. Paul's Basilica (Power and Queen Sts.).  A celebration of life will follow. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto and the Canadian Cancer Society.
