Haas JohnHAAS, John Johann  -  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Johann Haas on Wednesday August 1, 2018. John passed away in his 98th year at Etobicoke General Hospital.

John was born in Sunderland, England to Johann and Harriet Haas (nee Taggart) on February 28, 1921. After graduating Grade 8, John joined the family’s tailoring business.

When war broke out in 1939 John joined the Home Guard. In 1940 John was transferred to the Pacific Theatre of War. John fought bravely for his native England and was decorated with the following medals: - 1939-1945 Star, - Burma Star (Pacific), - Defense Medal (Silver Laurel Leaves), and - War Medal 1939-1945 (Oak Leaf). John left a financially depressed England in 1953 for better opportunities in Canada. John joined the federal government in 1958, where he worked as an Immigration Officer for 25 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife Iris (nee Hall), to whom he was married for 54 years to the day; his cherished children Robert and Elizabeth (Justin); and his treasured grandchildren Katherine, Jack, and Maggie.

John is remembered by his nephew Fred Burton and his niece Marjorie Burton.

He is reunited with his parents and his beautiful sisters Freda Burton and Marjorie Martin and his nieces Freda Rose and Jacqueline Allan.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the hardworking staff at Woodbridge Vista for their care and compassion during his stay.

John’s Visitation will be held on Friday August 10, 2018 from 6-9 pm and a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 11 at 3 pm. Both will be held at Turner & Porter, Butler Chapel, Etobicoke.
