Monica Turansky

June 26, 1937 - November 9, 2024

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the age of 87. Monica was the beloved wife of the late Bernie Turansky and a cherished mother to Lorraine (Billy) and Brenda, as well as the late Paul. She was a loving grandmother to Celina and a second mother to MaryAnn (Chris), and was fondly regarded as a substitute grandmother to Adam and Connor.

Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Monica was the eldest of 13 siblings. She moved to Ajax to begin her career as a nurse’s aide, where she met her future husband, Bernie. They married, and she settled in Whitby, where she lived the rest of her life. Known for her hard work and dedication, Monica helped run Turansky’s Grocery and Variety Store, a beloved gathering spot for many in Whitby. Many residents fondly remember Monica’s warm smile and the 1-cent candies she handed out.

Even into her 70s, Monica managed the family property, looked after tenants, and continued to be a vibrant part of her community. She was known for her intelligence, loyalty, love for dogs, and zest for life.

“Life's race well run, Life's work well done, Life's victory won, Now cometh rest.”

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
