VEALE, Roger MacDonald -
March 30, 1943 - June 23, 2023
After an 8 year journey with Alzheimer's, Roger is now at peace.
He is survived by wife of 56 years, Cynthia; daughters Amanda (late Jeff) & Alison (Andrew); grandchildren, Jess, Jacob, Madeleine, & Maelle; brothers Ron (Kip) & David (Jill).
He was dedicated and passionate about his career with the North York Board of Education / TDSB as a teacher, head of science, Vice Principal, Principal and Superintendent. Roger was also a dedicated Board member at Pickering College where he had been a student.
In his retirement, he drove a coach tour bus and was Vice Principal at the ARS Armenian private school.
In addition to education, fitness was an integral part of Roger’s life.
He was an avid rower at UofT, enjoyed cycling, running marathons, and loved his years playing rugby with the Toronto Barbarians. This July, Roger will be recognized as a member of the Aurora Barbarians Rugby Club Hall of Fame.
Roger also loved spending his summers on Lake Mazinaw where he was a camper, counselor and cottager for over 60 years. Mazinaw held special memories for him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region and/or to this Go Fund Me page to help support Roger’s grandchildren (Jess & Jacob) after the recent loss of their father (Jeff Gobatto).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pickering College, Newmarket on Monday July 10th, 2023 from 2-4:30 pm.
