Healy MathewHEALY, Matthew Healy  -

September 24, 1950 - November 13, 2023

After a valiant battle with illness Matt passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 13, 2023 at the age of 73.

Born in Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland in 1950.

Predeceased by father Tom and mother Anne, dear Aunt Kitty and Uncle Pat.

Matt was one of 5 children, Marie, Kathleen, Etta and the late Dennis. Sadly, missed by his beloved children Brian, Matthew, Erika (and their loving mother Rosaleen) and their partners Elaine, Vanessa and Dylan and his grandchildren Jack, Cillian and Maeven.

Matt’s journey took him to Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry in 1976 where he started his own electrical business. He was a proud member of the local St Michael’s GAA club.

Emigration to Toronto followed in 1987. He soon found himself involved in the local GAA community again, a passion which filled his life with many great friends and equally many great moments. During his early years in Canada he was manager and Chairman of club side Clan na Gael.

He was a founding member as well as manager of both the Ladies & Mens teams for the Durham Robert Emmets GFC. He led in title and by example in every area of the Gaelic Athletic Association, chairing committees across his clubs, division, CCC as well as being a Toronto Board Trustee.

He was part of organizing committee for the historic St Patrick's Day Skydome games in 1990. As a referee Matt was also heavily involved in officiating and remained the final word on rules and regulations across the country.

His final and proudest post was that of Cathaoirleach, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Contae Canada, presiding over the inaugural Canadian Championships.

While Kerry & the GAA were his passion, Matt’s deepest love & pride was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and beamed with joy in their presence. Always supportive, their biggest champion, fiercest defender and beyond generous with anything he could offer. His gentlemanly manner, loyalty and dry wit will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be truly missed by his family and friends, both in Canada and Ireland. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

The Healy family wish to extend their sincere gratitude to the palliative care unit at Lakeridge Oshawa for all of their compassion and care that Matt received.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
