KOUMI, James Koumi  - It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, that we share the passing of our beloved James Koumi, on Monday March 4, 2024, at the age of 75, after his courageous battle with lung cancer.

James leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Maria, and their children, Katerina (Steve), Dino (Deanne), and Christopher.

James was a cherished pappou to Peter and Mariana. Born on January 4, 1949 to Costas and Eleni Koumi in London, England, James was the middle child to his siblings, Doulla and Anna.

At the age of 22, James married the love of his life, Maria.

On a search for better opportunity, James and Maria followed Spyros to Canada in 1974, where they began their life together in Toronto.

To James, Maria was his partner for life, his soulmate and his better half. He simply could not live without his Maria. J

James was overjoyed to marry Katerina to Steve in 2002. And through their love they gave him the greatest joy of becoming a proud grandfather to Peter and Mariana, which he loved very dearly. He was once again overjoyed to marry Dino to Deanne in 2012 and to see them build their life and home together surrounded by their loving animals.

James and Christopher held a special bond, as they lived together for all of Chris’ life.

In January, James was unexpectedly diagnosed with aggressive lung cancer. During these last two months, he courageously fought through the pain of this horrible disease up until the moment the Lord had chosen to take him from us to end his suffering. James was very loved and will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at McEachnie Funeral Home, Pickering Village, on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 1385 Warden Ave., Scarborough, on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with a burial to follow in Pickering.
