BROKENSHIRE, Wiliam (Bill) Glen - Of Toronto, died peacefully at his home September 18, 2018, aged 73.
Predeceased by his beloved partner, Ernesto Feu and brother, James (Jim) Brokenshire, Bill is survived by his sister, Jane Wright (Brian), nieces, Jennifer Fletcher (Ed), Michelle Tarrant, nephews, Tom Wright (Meaghan) and Mattthew Wright, sister-in-law, Cindy Trower (Jim), niece, Sarah Trower and nephew, Chase Brokenshire.
Born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, Bill attended Chatham Collegiate Institute and the University of Windsor before obtaining his Ontario Teacher's Certificate in 1968.
Teaching first with the Essex County Board of Education, he went on to teach in Toronto at a number of public schools including Pauline Avenue, Nelson Mandela Park and Dewson Avenue.
In 1983 he moved to Draper Street with his partner, Ernesto. He soon became a central figure in the community, establishing with others the Draper Street Residents' Association. An ardent collector and preserver of antiques and curiosities, he spearheaded the campaign to preserve Draper Street and the Empire houses located there.
Bill's devotion to Draper Street and his tenacity in preserving it are legendary.

A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at The Arts and Letters Club, 14 Elm Street, Toronto, on October 19, 2018, from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Médecins Sans Frontières, Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives or The Toronto Humane Society.
