Mattucci MariaMATTUCCI, Maria (nee Orlando) - Maria Mattucci, nee Orlando, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Hawthorn Woods Care Community, in Brampton.

Her children could not be with her, but she was in the loving care of the dedicated staff, in the home she had known for 8 years.

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to our beloved mother. Maria was the loving mother of Salvatore Giresi (Joanne), Giuseppe Giresi ( Caroline), Tony Giresi (Julie), Connie Mattucci (Paul) and John Mattucci (Soniya), and sister-in law to Antonio Mattucci (Ivana).

She was predeceased by her adoring husband Nicola Mattucci, and her siblings Giuseppina, Paolina, Grazia, Angela and Vincenzo (Nina).

Maria was also a loving aunt to nieces and nephews in both Italy and Sarnia, a grandmother to 11 beautiful grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Our mother was born in Polizzi Generosa, Italy, to Gandolfo and Antonietta. Although she immigrated to Canada in 1963, she maintained a regular contact with her family. Our mother lived two lifetimes in one, and her love for those in her life never wavered. Her trips to Italy, and most importantly Sarnia, provided some of the memories she held most dear.

Maria was an amazing cook, a wonderful seamstress and she enjoyed spending time with her family. Our mother never shied away from work, and providing for her family was her raison d’être. It is difficult to capture her spirit in words, but there was a wit, sense of humour and a “take a bull by the horns” approach which characterized our mother. She was definitely not afraid to be her own person. I close my eyes, and I can hear some of the monikers and turn of phrases that would have us laughing. Our mother’s giving spirit also extended to the love she showed for her two dogs, Ringo and Gina.

Maria’s tenacity came up against Alzheimer’s and Covid-19, and after a long battle, she will find the peace she so deserves.

Arrangements entrusted with Ward funeral homes. Our mother will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 29th. A much deserved celebration of life will be held in the summer, when those she touched can gather to remember her.

Memorial Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
