BRUER, Paul Martin Louis - July 3, 1923 - December 24, 2020
Paul Bruer died peacefully on Christmas Eve 2020.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Shirley, his 6 children and their spouses, his 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Paul was an urban planner and later a professor in the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson University.
He was involved with the Lutheran church all his life, sitting on councils and boards at all levels of governance.
His passion was social justice.
Through his church work, he travelled to Madagascar and served as a United Nations election monitor in both Namibia and South Africa.
He and Shirley retired to a farm in the Bruce Peninsula.
He loved to read, discuss theology, make cherry wine, and host his large family for barbecues, bonfires, and long conversations.
We will remember his sense of humour and his quiet thoughtfulness.
A private celebration of his life will be arranged later.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, or a charity of your choice.
