BUTLER, Harold Robert - (January 29, 1927 – January 6, 2021) - We cherish the memory of a great man.
Dearly loved by his wife Dorothy; his beloved daughters Brynn Green (Joe) and Mary Butler-Gretton (John); his grandchildren Aaron (Stephanie), Kyle (Robin), Travis (Kirsten), Dylan (Pamela), Paula (Emmett), Charlie (Hannah) and Will (Ryann); his great grandchildren Addison, Aiden, Avy, Aera and Freddie; Dorothy’s daughter Jill Weir-McLean (Bob) and their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Helen McEwen (Mendal, deceased).
Our Dad lived his life with determination and absolute integrity. He gave his family and the world one hundred percent for almost 94 years.
His faith supported him through many difficult life challenges. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Church in Lively, ON and then Aurora United Church.
Our Dad began his life on his family’s tobacco farm in South-Western Ontario. He was proud of his career with INCO Ltd., in Copper Cliff, as a metallurgical engineer and environmental specialist. He was guided by purpose; he aimed to do what was right, not what was popular. His spirit shone brightly in the Masonic Lodges of Northern Ontario and Aurora.
He was always ready for a drive, to explore and to think. The highlights of his travelling days were spent aboard an arctic research ship crossing the Northwest Passage at the tender age of 85, and then standing on the most eastern point of Canada, Cape Spear, during his final tour of Newfoundland, five years later. Well Done Dad!
Predeceased by the first love of his life, his wife of 40 years, E. Carole Jelly Butler, his parents Alton and Irene Butler, his brother Kenneth (Helen), and two infant sons John and William.
We celebrate his life, his passion for education, his tenacity, and his joy when he drove up the camp road with his black labs to the oasis he created for his family at Fairbank Lake.
We will honour our Dad with a memorial service and burial of his ashes in Lively, ON when it is safe for us to gather. Arrangements entrusted with Thompson funeral home, Aurora, ON.
