Tintor AnkicaTINTOR, AnkicaIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ankica Tintor, who passed away peacefully on January 26, 2021 in her 94th year, at home and with her family by her side.

Born in the village of Brlog, Lika, Yugoslavia to Staka and Mile Mileusnic, she grew up in a loving and hard-working Serbian farming family which instilled in her the very values she carried with her to her last days.

She survived the Nazi occupation of her homeland in World War II and the Holocaust which engulfed her community and Serbian people during those trying times.

Fleeing the ravages of war as a teenager, Ankica joined the long columns of refugees eventually making her way to British-run displaced persons camps in Italy in 1945. Her journey took her to England via Germany and then finally to her new home in Canada where, in 1955, she met and married Petar Tintor, another recent immigrant.

In Canada, she embraced the many challenges of her new homeland, quickly adapting to making a new life for herself through resilience and hard work. Ankica was a strong, open minded woman, who exuded a confidence and intelligence that was far beyond the grade school education she had received.

She never forgot her roots and was a proud and active member of the Serbian community across southern Ontario, volunteering with the Kola Srpski Sestara, the Circle of Serbian Sisters, at local church functions and events for many years.

Arriving to Canada penniless and with one small suitcase, she leaves a rich legacy. Ankica is survived by her husband of 65 years Petar, sons Nick (Marilyn), George (Isabel) and beloved grandchildren Daniella, Alexander (Barbara), Diana (Timo), Marina, Anushka and one great grandson, Lars. Also by her brother Dusan Mileusnic and many nieces, nephews and relatives in Canada and Serbia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ankica’s memory be made to All Serbian Saints Orthodox Church at 2520 Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario, LY4 2A5 or directly via their website at: www.sabornik.com

As a result of strict COVID regulations, a private family funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd at All Saints Serbian Orthodox Church in Mississauga, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted with Scott funeral home, Mississauga chapel.
