Nishio TomNISHIO, Tomi-Taro 'Tom' - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tomi-Taro peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on March 23, 2021.

Dear husband to the late Joyce (nee: Ikeda) and the late Mary (nee: Suzuki).

A wonderful father to Robynn, Greig (Carolynne), and the late Ian (Helen).

A much loved grandfather to Robin (Athena), Corey (Olga), Daniel, Timothy, Jonathan, and Brooke.

Devoted brother of the late Itsushi, Nori and Rei, and survived by his brother Kaz (Sachi)

Tom enjoyed a life well-lived.

He grew up in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver and excelled in sports playing rugby for UBC and later was on the football and swim teams at the University of Western Ontario.

While at Western, he volunteered to be a translator in the Canadian Army during WWII to prove to his country that he was a Canadian. After the war, he returned to Western and was one of the first Japanese Canadians to earn a business degree.

Many thanks to the staff at Delmanor Wynford where Tom resided for the past decade and most recently the staff at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre whose care and comfort were instrumental in Tom celebrating his 100th Birthday in January.

In lieu of flowers and koden, we graciously request that memorial donations be made to: Momiji Health Care Society and the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre both organizations of which Tom was a long-time supporter.

Due to the current pandemic, the visitation and funeral service will be restricted to immediate family, by invitation only.
