LAZARE, Gerald John - September 25, 1927 - March 23, 2021
Passed away peacefully at home, on March 23rd, at the age of 93.
Predeceased by his parents Maurice and Abiata Lazare and his brothers and sisters Harry, Sarah, Solly, and Rita.
Sadly mourned and fondly remembered by his wife Setsuko, son Jeff Lazare, nephews Aaron (Ally) Lazare, Brian Lazare, David and Ruth Lazare and many others.
Gerald had a wonderful career as an artist. He started out at the age of 16 when he was hired to do comic strips during the war.
He then became an illustrator and taught part-time at the Ontario College of Art which enabled him to become a serious painter.
He had many successful shows, received numerous awards and has paintings in many prestigious collections including the City of Toronto.
His wife Setsuko is also an accomplished painter and they published a book of their work together "East Meets West" in 2007. He also had a lifelong passion for jazz and painted many of his favourite musicians.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Setsuko and a wonderful father to his son Jeff.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Doctors Without Borders.
