McSweeney JohnMcSWEENEY, John Robert   - Passed away peacefully at home in Orillia, ON, May 2, 2021 at age 79.

Beloved husband of Mildred McSweeney (nee McDermott).

Devoted father to Jim Kavanaugh (Kathleen), Ken Kavanaugh and Sharon Kavanaugh (Peter).

Cherished "Papa John" of Jaclyn, Liz, Wil, Ralph (deceased), Krystal, Tim, Shannon, Ken, Lane, Scott and many great-grandchildren.

Dear brother of deceased siblings and spouses Patricia and Ed Lafontaine, Viola and Alex Ellison, Curtis McSweeney, surviving sisters Marion Joia, Maureen McSweeney, brother Terrence McSweeney and sisters-in-law Jeanette McSweeney and Joan McSweeney.

"Uncle John" to many nephews and nieces. John was born in Kapuskasing, ON.

He spent 26 years in Iqaluit, NU as a Music and English teacher at GREC, elementary teacher at Nakasuk and an active volunteer in the community. Upon retirement, John and Millie settled in Orillia, where he continued to volunteer.

Relentlessly loving, upbeat, engaged and positive, John was one of God's better people. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.

We would like to thank the compassionate staff at Soldiers Memorial, his long time nurse Katherine Oliver, Dr. Nay at RVH and Dr. Perrigo. A celebration of John's life will be held later.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
