Ellison PeterELLISON, Peter James   -  Peter passed away peacefully, at Linhaven Home for the Aged in St. Catharines, on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 74 years of age.

Dear father of Patrick Ellison and his wife, Rocelyn Del Carmen.

Proud grandfather of Ethan and Jasmine, and uncle of Mathew and Laura Wilkins of the United Kingdom.

He will be greatly missed by his many long-term friends, and especially by his partner of many years, Joan Worthington, who gave so much of herself to Peter's personal care as he battled with Alzheimer Disease.

His absence will be hard for his dear friends of 54 years, Nunzio and Cathy Carnovale, whose family called him Uncle Peter. For those who knew and loved Peter, he is best described as a gentleman and a gentle man.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Roland Ellison and Joan (nee Bayne), and by his sister, Janet Wilkins. Peter emigrated from Leicester, England, in 1966 for Toronto, Canada.

His love of nature brought him into the world of hiking. He became a hike leader for the Bruce Trail Club, first in Toronto, and finally in Niagara Region. For a decade he took responsibility to organize the Bruce Trail annual "End to End" hiking marathon in Caledon area.

Unselfishly he gave his time to support others in the discovery of Ontario's outdoors.

The family and friends express sincere thanks to the many staff of Linhaven Home and to Dr. Charles Hu for their care and compassion for Peter in his final years.

Future placement of a plaque on the Bruce Trail will serve as a permanent acknowledgment of Peter's long service to others. The date of installation ceremony will be announced.

A private gathering was held on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

Memorial donations in his name may be sent to the Alzheimer Society or the Bruce Trail Conservancy.
