YAMANAKA, Richard - Sadly passed away on July 12th, 2021.
Born June 27,1921 in Prince Rupert, BC, his parents were Japanese immigrants from Wakayama who opened a general store. In 1940, he achieved a full scholarship to study Engineering Physics at Queen's University, during which time his family was relocated to Slocan Internment Camp.
A proud member of Science ‘44, he later moved to Toronto, where he met his wife Jean and they settled on Donna Court in Willowdale and raised their four daughters. Dick had a successful career in X-ray sales with GE Medical Systems travelling all across Canada.
His family is incredibly grateful to have been able to celebrate his centennial birthday with him before his passing.
Predeceased by his wife Jean Kobayashi, his parents Hirokichi and Isao and all six of his siblings; Cana, Nori, Chisato, Hiro, Emery and Michi.
Survived by daughters Janet (Mark Topazian), Susan (Chris Towe), Ellen (John Lownie), and Mary (Greg Kocik), and will always be remembered fondly as Papa in the hearts of his grandchildren; Megan, Max, Hillary, Rachel, Elise, Allison, Maddie, Rebecca, Samuel, August, Timothy and Katharine. He will also be missed by good friend Nancy Steele.
Dick lived a full life, withstanding each of life’s plateaus and valleys: he endured on. He was a dedicated husband, son and brother and will always be remembered as a devoted and loving father and grandfather. We can find peace that he can rest easy now; we will continue on.
