McCalmont MyrtleMCCALMONT, Mary Elizabeth 'Myrtle' - Passed away on August 12, 2021.

Myrtle had a brief battle with dementia and was taken to Markhaven after a stroke in May of 2020, where she passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert and her best friend, sister Lottie. Lottie also lived in Markhaven and Myrtle spoke of her often.

She leaves behind her daughter Laura and son-in-law John.

Grandchildren Michele & Sean and great grandson Liam.

Myrtle was born in Northern Ireland on January 31st, 1931 where she married Robert in 1953 and had daughter Laura the following year. The family emigrated to Canada in 1965 and made a life for themselves in Scarborough. Myrtle worked at Honeywell for over 30 years and once she retired, her and Robert moved to Water Street in Markham.

Anyone who knew Myrtle knew she loved life, being upbeat and, of course, colour. Her outfits were always matching from head to toe and never black. For this reason, the family would love that, if you are comfortable with it, not to wear black but wear something with colour so we can all celebrate her vibrance with life and fashion.

A visitation service will be held on Wednesday August 18th from 4-8 pm at Dixon-Garland , Markham. The funeral service will be held August 19th at 11:00 am also at Dixon-Garland. A small reception will follow the service at the Markham District Veterans Assoc. (7 Washington St, Markham ON L3P 2R3).  If possible, please let us know if you are going to attend the service and reception by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to Markhaven where she was taken such great care of during this very difficult year.
