CARTER, George Edward, B.A.,M.A., Ph.D., - After a somewhat long and fulfilling life, I chose to exit this realm on October 4, 2021, due to escalating medical issues.
This decision gave me the advantage of being able to assist with the writing of this obituary.
I was born in Amherst, NS, in 1936 (the secret is revealed) and I leave behind my brother David (partner Guy) in White Rock, BC, and many dear and wonderful friends in Toronto (Stan Middlestadt, Scott DeWare, Joe Lauerman, Eric Ralphe) and in Puerto Vallarta (Jim Gregory, the Hamlin-Lockington's, Rowley clan, and others).
Relationships, travelling, theatre, cocktail hour, and reading were very important to me and so was the pursuit of education and career. I graduated from Mount Alison (B.A.), University of New Brunswick (M.A.), Clark University (Ph.D.) and had the privilege of carousing and further studies in the U.K., France, Australia, etc.
I was fortunate to be a Professor of Economics at Ryerson University for 35 years and one of my greatest honours was being appointed to the Pépin-Robarts Task Force on Canadian Unity in 1977.
It was a privilege to work with so many brilliant and passionate minds during those chaotic times in Canada's history. There will be no memorial, as per my wishes.
In lieu of flowers, any of my alma maters are befitting of donations, but nothing would please me more than you raise a glass to life and its myriad of adventures and mysteries.
