1953 - 2024
Pastor, theological educator and university president, died peacefully, with family and friends at his side on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by both his parents, John and Carol Nelson of Calgary; and is survived by his wife, Carla; daughter, Stacy, son-in-law, Phil; four precious grandchildren, Garrett, Katjana, Malcolm and Annika; his brother, John, sister-in-law, Debby and their family; as well as innumerable relatives and friends.
He served as minister of several Canadian Baptist churches, as General Secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries, and as President of Tyndale University.
A celebration of Gary's life and faith will be held at First Baptist Church Edmonton on Tuesday, January 30th at 1:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed.
Donations in his honour may be made to First Baptist Church Edmonton, Mimico Baptist Church Toronto, Canadian Baptist Ministries or Tyndale University.
