Calnan JohnCALNAN, John  - March 20, 1940 – April 14, 2018

"One of the greats", John passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 14th surrounded by loved ones.

Beloved husband to Clare (nee Dutton) for 47 years.

Loving father to Michael (Liako), Thomas, Mary-Claire, Colleen (Leo) and Denis.

Playful and devoted grandfather to Maya, Noah and Willa.

John was much loved by his sister Mary Ann "Maer" (Hugh) and brother Frank (Brenda).

He is remembered as a generous uncle John to many nieces and nephews (and great-nieces and great-nephews). John was happiest exploring the lakes in Haliburton, finding frogs with his grandchildren and encouraging the interests of anyone he loved.

He had a deep love for nature and animals, a boundless curiosity and took delight in any new adventure. Sometimes a "tough guy", he was also tremendously patient and always saw the good in people.

John was a gifted storyteller with a penchant for exaggerating tales to greater and greater degrees with each telling, provoking many belly laughs and eye rolls. We will miss him dearly.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd., on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 49 George St., Weston, on Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Hearthstone By The Bay at 1 p.m., 3 Marine Parade Dr.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated .
