Smith MarySMITH, Mary Jane Isobel  - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at age 85.

Mary Jane (née Godfrey) was born and lived in Toronto her whole life.

Mary Jane was married to Frederick Smith, her loving husband of over 61 years, until his death this past February.

She is survived by her son Howard, daughter Heather, son-in-law John Waldow and granddaughter Alice, her first cousin Pat Milne who was "like a sister," and "Immy" Howard, wife of first cousin, the late "Bill" Howard, and other relatives in Ontario.

Mary Jane was a wonderful wife, mother, teacher and friend. She graduated with a BPHE from the University of Toronto in 1953. For over 30 years, she taught girls' Physical Education, Mathematics in the latter years and coached basketball teams at two Toronto high schools.

She enjoyed reunions with her 22 University women classmates held every 5 years for 65 years.

Mary Jane was an active person, always doing something of interest including home canning, baking, sewing and knitting, gardening, playing tennis, curling, teaching at night school, and socializing with friends and relatives.

She loved her dogs, flowers and birds and freshly picked fruits and vegetables from Fred's backyard garden and from local farms. During her retirement, Mary Jane particularly enjoyed sharing summer time at Wasaga Beach with Fred, friends and family.

She pursued many interests and remained organized in precise detail, including travelling outside of Fred's fishing season, extended winter trips to Florida and learning and playing bridge with Fred and friends.

Mary Jane will always be loved and missed by us all. A brief service will be held in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Thursday, August 2nd at 11:30 a.m.

If desired, donations may be made to Arthritis Society, 393 University Ave., Suite 1700, Toronto, ON M5G 1E6, or online at www.arthritis.ca.
