Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the age of 85 after a life well lived.
Beloved husband of 60+ years to the late Carrol Vanstone “Nan” (née White). Adored father of Cherry (former husband Ted) and Mary-Anne (Jeff)). Treasured brother of Debra (Brian). Loving and doting grandfather to Kristi (Todd), Nicholas and Julie (Frank). Proud great grandfather to Jocelyn (Jordan), Trent, Tyler and Samantha and great-great grandfather of Bennett and Paisley.
Predeceased by his parents Charlie and Florence Vanstone (née Kelly), brothers Vincent (Shirley) and Winston, and sisters Marion and Mabel (John). Curtis was also dearly loved by numerous nieces and nephews with a special shoutout to Kelly (alongside his daughter, Cherry
and a few special PSW’s) for the long hours giving “uncle” well deserved support, love and medical care during his final months. His bright light and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by all.
Curtis (“Pop”) was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always put family first. A man of quiet strength and enduring love, he believed deeply in the importance of family and instilled those values in generations that followed. Growing up, Curtis enjoyed playing both hockey and baseball, and throughout his life he remained an enthusiastic supporter of sports. He could often be found proudly attending his grandchildren’s games and sporting events whenever possible, always offering to share his ice cream. His kindness, warm presence, and famous sloppy kisses will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and the many four-legged companions he loved over the years.
After a long career with General Motors marked by hard work and dedication, Curtis enjoyed nearly 30 years of retirement. Much of that time was happily spent following his beloved Carrol (“Nan”) wherever she went and loving her deeply and unconditionally.
As per Curtis’ wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will be holding a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Dementia Society.
