Scott Marshall McDonald

It is with deep sadness that the McDonald family announces the passing of Scott Marshall McDonald on February 7, 2026, at the age of 54.

Scott was predeceased by his mother, Sandy. He is survived by his father, Stuart; his brothers, Spencer (wife Sheri; children Grace and Adelaide) and Stuart (children Avery and Logan); and his sister, Signe (husband Brian; children Jack and Charlie). He will also be dearly missed by his close friend, Jimmy, and his beloved dog, Baby.

Though small in stature due to a rare genetic disorder, Scott’s heart, presence, and spirit were immeasurably large. Charismatic, warm, and a natural leader, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. As Student Body President at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, his confidence and remarkable ability to bring people together shone brightly.

Scott was a gifted swimmer and a talented saxophonist whose love of music was unmistakable. He spent more than a decade at Camp Ponacka on Lake Baptiste—first as a camper and later as a cherished counsellor, swim instructor, and legendary camp sing-song leader. His energy, humour, and generosity shaped countless summers, creating memories for campers and staff that will endure for years to come.

He later attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology and formed many lifelong friendships.

Those who met him—whether in school, at camp, or along life’s winding path—remember his warmth and his extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and truly seen.

Scott faced his own challenges. Even so, he continued to be a loyal friend to many, including seniors he supported and spent time with. His compassion and instinct to help others never faded.

When Scott was admitted to Michael Garron Hospital in November, the many friends he had gathered throughout his life reached out through visits, messages, and shared stories. Those final months were profoundly meaningful to him. Reconnecting with old friends, hearing their memories, and feeling their care brought him immense comfort and happiness.

Scott’s life was marked by resilience, humour, generosity, and love. He will always be remembered by the people whose lives he touched.

Scott’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Michael Garron Hospital, including the Post-Surgical Care and Palliative Care units.

Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating Scott’s vibrant life. The gathering will be held at Habayit Shelanu Seniors Residence, located at 155 Kendal Avenue, Toronto, on February 21, 2026, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  At noon, there will be an opportunity for anyone wishing to say a few words in Scottie’s memory to do so.
