On Sunday, January 18, 2026, after a recent diagnosis and short battle with an aggressive Cancer, my mom passed away peacefully at home, exactly where she wanted to be.
She was fiercely independent, strong, and loving. A single mom in the 70s, she worked incredibly hard — sometimes juggling two or three jobs — to make sure I had a full, happy childhood. I never went without, and that’s something I understand and appreciate more with every passing year.
She spent decades working in building operations, leading teams in what was then a very male-dominated field. She was respected for her work ethic, fairness, and quiet (ish) confidence. But, it was her sarcastic, quick, dry, hope-you-can-take-it wit that made her the “old boss” who past employees stayed in communication with because she was their “favourite.”
She is survived by her daughters Erin and Cali; her brothers Glen Wood (Margo) and Tony McInnis (Michelle); her grandsons Dean James and Cameron; her nieces and nephews Christina, Kait, and Shea; and was predeceased by her father, William (Bernie) Wood, Shirley McInnis (nee Murphy) and her brother Greg Wood.
If she were signing off herself, it might sound something like this:
Near or far, you stayed with me,
In thought, in heart, in memory.
No speeches needed, no display,
I’ve said enough for us all — now find your way.
She lived life on her own terms, valued dignity and independence, and carried herself with grace (and a dash of feisty) right through to the end. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
At Bonnie’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
