Albert John “Bert” Griffin

January 23, 2026

Griffin Albert John 400x400 1

Passed away peacefully in Kelowna, British Columbia, on January 23, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Bert met and married the love of his life, Marlene, in 1963. Together, they welcomed four children while living in the Lower Mainland. Bert later came to Kelowna, BC to work on the construction of Orchard Park Mall and quickly decided to relocate his family—drawn by the abundance of nearby fishing lakes he so dearly loved.

An avid five-pin bowler, Bert was inducted into the BC 5 Pin Bowling Hall of Fame in 1987. He also had a deep passion for the outdoors and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing, with many memorable trips to the Chilcotin and Bella Coola standing out as highlights of his life. After suffering a major stroke at the age of 52, Bert faced significant health challenges with resilience and determination, never allowing them to diminish his love of nature. His fondest memories were made camping and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

In 1997, Bert and Marlene moved to Oliver, BC. Following Marlene’s passing in 2007, Bert returned to Kelowna. In 2020, he moved into Lake Country Manor, where he made many friends and found a supportive community. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and residents at Lake Country Manor for their kindness and compassion.

A devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan, Bert especially enjoyed the team’s playoff run in 2025.

Bert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlene, in 2007. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Patti (Michael) Heyfron, David Griffin, Evie (Mike) Kroschinsky, and Barb (Ray) Sebastian. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: John, Chelsi, Heather (Nathan), Samantha (Josh), Braden (Emma), Katie (Nick), and Conner, as well as his great-grandchildren: Magnolia, Clementine, Maple, and Sawyer. Bert is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Known for his big smile and infectious laugh, Bert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
