Shiva information: Shiva visits are welcome Thursday following the interment until 4:00 pm, and then 7:00 to 9:00 pm, continuing Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and Monday and Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Morning services will be held at 7:30 am on Friday, Monday and Tuesday at Temple Sinai at 210 Wilson Avenue in Toronto. Evening services will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the shiva house. Shiva visits will conclude Wednesday after the morning service at 9:00 am, on December 17th at the family home at 189 Caribou Road.

CHRIS, Matthew Benjamin Samuel – It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew, on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at the tender age of 27, surrounded by love. Matthew is achingly missed by his parents, Dr. Sharon Friefeld and John Chris and his step-mother Hyla Benson. Adored brother of Lauren Chris, step-brother of Ronit and Mathew Pottins and Orlee Benson. Loving grandson of Milton Friefeld and Beverley Goodbaum. Fun step-uncle of Layla and Landen. Matthew will be sorely missed by many lifelong friends, as well as his many uncles, aunts and cousins. Gratitude to the 5th Floor and CVICU doctors and nurses at UHN who used heroic efforts to try to save Matthew.
