It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albertus Cornelius (Neill) Besselink on June 17, 2026, at the age of 63. Neill will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his father Leo Besselink, sister Marisa (Martin), niece Sarah (Daniel) and nephew Michael (Lindsay). He is predeceased by his mother Janny Besselink. Neill will also be dearly missed by his aunt, uncle and cousins in the Netherlands, as well as his friends at our local Tim Hortons. Special thanks to Janice and the staff at Community Living who supported Neill for many years and were good friends to him. Additional thanks to Bob and his staff at the Heartland Forest woodworking group. Neill was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan and enjoyed a lifetime rivalry with his Montreal-fan sister. As well, he loved attending the car races at Merrittville, Cayuga, and previously at Humberstone Speedway. Each year he also looked forward to attending the Monster Truck show. For many years, Neill was heavily involved in Special Olympics and has many remarkable achievements in softball, powerlifting, bowling and speed skating. Most notably, Neill was part of the Garden City Lion’s Softball team, who won the gold medal at the 2007 Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, China. Over the past few years, Neill developed his woodworking skills at the Heartland Forest woodworking class and made near professional grade inlaid charcuterie boards. Many family and friends are the proud owner of his creations! Neill has always been extremely hard working with a humble personality. He had a great sense of humour with a quick wit and a ready smile for everyone and loved hanging out with friends and family. His greatest love was being an uncle to Sarah and Michael, and he would be forever joking around with them. Neill will be missed by all who knew him (and endured his back-breaking hugs!). He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be forever cherished.

Cremation has taken place. Neill’s family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 179 Clarence St. Port Colborne. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Neill’s memory to Heartland Forest or to Community Living Port Colborne-Wainfleet. Online memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.armstrongfuneralhome.ca
