It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Agostino Zarcone at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of his family.

Agostino was born in Termini Imerese, Sicily, Italy, to the late Salvatore Zarcone and the late Maria Zarcone (nee Fusco). He was the beloved husband of Maria Zarcone (nee Alescio) for 64 wonderful years, just two months shy of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.

He was a loving father to Salvatore (Antonia), Tino (Kim), Mary (Walter), and Roberto (Jenny). He was a cherished Nonno to Cody, Julia (Luca), Sara (Matthew), Christina, Agostino (A.J.), Zachary, Matthew Agostino, Mya, and Milena, and a proud Bisnonno to Lennon, Luna, Romeo, and Leighton.

Agostino was the eldest of four children. He was predeceased by his siblings Angela (the late Salvatore), the late Carlo (the late Marina), and the late Josephine, His love for his siblings was unwavering and readily set aside his own time to offer support, lend a helping hand, or simply be present when they needed him. His ongoing devotion was a testament to the kind of man he was.

Throughout his life, Agostino was known for his courage, strength, generosity, and unwavering commitment to family. He led by example, demonstrating integrity, perseverance, and compassion in all that he did, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Agostino was proud of his service in the Italian Military, where he developed the discipline, resilience, and practical skills that helped shape his character and strong work ethic throughout his life. After immigrating to Canada, he then built a respected career with Royal Mail, known today as Canada Post, earning the admiration of colleagues through his dedication, reliability, and tireless commitment to his work.

Beyond his career, Agostino found his greatest happiness in the company of family and friends. He loved bringing people together, whether through lively gatherings, dancing, singing, or sharing stories and laughter. He especially enjoyed spending winters at his home in Florida, where he embraced life with the same warmth and enthusiasm that defined him.

A passionate gardener, Agostino took great pride in cultivating vegetable gardens at every home he lived in. He delighted in sharing the bounty of his harvest with family, friends, and neighbors, finding joy not only in growing food but in giving it away.

Agostino’s legacy lives on through the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

His passing on Father’s Day was a fitting day for his final journey, as being a father was among the roles he treasured most and was extremely proud of his children. His guidance, love and support shaped the lives of his family and will continue to inspire future generations.

Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, family, friendship work ethic will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

“A life well lived leaves memories that time cannot erase.”

May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) in Barrie for the compassionate care and support they provided to Agostino during his final days. They would also like to offer a special thank you to Dr. André Bédard, a highly respected and exceptional physician, who oversaw Agostino’s medical care for over 20 years. His dedication, professionalism, and commitment consistently went above and beyond, providing comfort, guidance, and outstanding care to Agostino throughout the years.
