Peacefully at Maplewood Manor in Seaforth on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, in her 90th year.
Predeceased by her husband Ross and parents Gerardus and Mary. Beloved sister of Dora Van Herk (the late John), Catherine Hak (the late Harry), Fr. John Van den Hengel (SCJ), Bill Van den Hengel (Evelyn), Antonette Lane (John), Anne Middegaal (John), Gerry Van den Hengel (Elaine), Tony Van den Hengel (Mary), Jack Van den Hengel (MaryAnne), and Rose Loomans (Piet). Mary will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Also remembered by Ross’ children, Janice and Denise.
Mary was born in Holland and as a teenager immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings. Her faith and her family were very important parts of her life. Mary loved nature and would marvel at how the crops would grow year after year. She took many trips with Ross to the Pinery to enjoy the trees, water, and beautiful Lake Huron sunsets. As an active parishioner at Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Church, Mary provided ministry to many in the Watford community.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, 22 Victoria Street in Seaforth, concelebrated by Fr. John Van den Hengel (SCJ) and Fr. Innocent Ibeh. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow later in the day at Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Cemetery, 5621 Nauvoo Road in Watford.
