It is with broken hearts that we, Tom and Alta Campbell, announce the sudden passing of our cherished and only child, Thomas RYAN Campbell, of Espanola. Ryan is predeceased by his grandparents Boyd and Norma Campbell, Bill and Nora Cress, and by his cousin and “big brother,” Robbie Campbell (2010). Though technically an only child, Ryan’s life was rich with chosen family. He became the cherished “twin” of Amy (Chad) Sonnenburg, his high school best friend turned family, and “big brother” to his little cousin Sarah (Jason) Ball. Ryan proudly called himself uncle to Amy and Chad’s children, Campbell and Meredith, as well as to Sarah and Jason’s children, Seth and Hunter. Ryan will also be deeply missed by many aunts and uncles, a large group of cousins, and a multitude of loyal, lifelong friends. Ryan attended Laurentian University, where he proudly obtained his degree in Psychology. His natural curiosity and love of people were reflected in his studies and in the way he connected so deeply with everyone around him. A lifelong animal lover, Ryan was a proud cat dad and leaves behind his feline companion, Dutch VanDerFluff. Over the years, Ryan also cared for many beloved pets—including many cats and his childhood iguana, Bud. Ryan’s humor was as legendary as his childhood rat-tail. His collection of more than 40 funny and outrageous character shirts (along with a pair of hamburger shoes) captured his unique personality and his ability to bring joy and laughter into any room. A true pop culture enthusiast, Ryan was a passionate follower of movies, television, books, and music. He was always watching, reviewing, and sharing his thoughts with others—especially through lively conversations and online debates. Ryan loved nothing more than bonding with friends, family, and even strangers over shared interests or differences, sparking conversations that left lasting impressions. His passions were vast—a talented musician (mastering both trumpet and guitar), video games, animals, media, and debate. Ryan’s sharp mind and warm heart made him a gravitational force of human connection – someone who could gather more friends in a week than many do in a lifetime. Details of a celebration of Ryan’s life will be shared at a later date.
