It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great -grandmother, Despina Theolis.

A woman of quiet strength, intellect and profound faith, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026 at the remarkable age of 101.

Born on November 3, 1924, in Philippi, Kavala, Greece, Despina lived a long, vibrant life grounded in her deep devotion to God. Over more than a century, she witnessed an evolving world having called Greece, Germany and Canada home, always keeping her mind active by staying up to date with the latest news and world happenings. An avid reader and enthusiastic gardener, always placing knowledge at the forefront of her life and developing a deep passion for reading at a young age evolving into the sharpest of minds even until her final days. The hardwork of growing up while working fields during the roughest and formative years of her life, blossomed into a passion for gardening up until 100 while always being quick to share the fruits of her labour. Lastly, the comfort of her religion formed the bedrock of her family and guided her throughout her life. Her wisdom, stories, and gentle spirit created a lasting foundation for her family.

Despina Theolis is survived by her devoted children, Daphne (Panagiotis) and Nickolas (Christina). She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her 8 grandchildren: Steve (Gloria), George (Jennifer), Terry (Veronica), Despina (Stratos), Theodoros (Christina), Nick (Shanice), Theodore, and Dimitri. She was also the incredibly proud grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren who brought her immense happiness and pride. She deeply treasured the unique and special bond she shared with each and every one of them.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodoros; her beloved son, Christos; her dear parents, Christos and Katina; and her siblings, Stavros and Eleni.

In fulfillment of her deeply held wishes, Despina will return home to Philippi, Kavala, Greece, which will serve as her final resting place. There, she will be laid to rest to eternally be with her beloved husband and son.
