URQUHART, John Charles Urquhart

After a courageous battle and with profound sadness we share the passing of John Charles Urquhart on May 4, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by the love of his life and his two cherished daughters.

Recognized for his stature, those who knew him best considered him a beloved gentle giant who gave the best hugs and a warm handshake. He was a man who expressed himself through his actions. Throughout his life, John donated his time and energy across the community which included coaching baseball and hockey, leading a fraternal organization that raised funds for various charities (including the Lakeridge Health Cancer Centre), shovelling snow and cutting lawns for seniors, and volunteering in his church.

A man with great integrity and work ethic, John spent most of his career working in the automotive industry specializing in GM parts, with people who would become friends for life. Following his retirement, he found fulfilment driving a school bus for Durhamways.

He enjoyed many adventures travelling with Leslee and friends, whether exploring a new destination or waterfront with a cerveza or glass of white wine in hand. He also loved spending time with his family and many great friends.

John’s grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. Whether it was a splash pad, the zoo, centre island or trips to the ice cream store, every activity was filled with love. He was and will continue to be one of their biggest cheerleaders, taking great pride in their various endeavours.

He is loved and survived by his wife Leslee of 48 years, daughters Diana McNeil (Martin) and Sandra Boissoin (Steve), grandchildren Brooklyn, Owen, Hudson, Sophia and Olivia, his mother Eleanor and his brother, sisters, their spouses and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Jack.

We invite family and friends to Visitation which will take place on Monday, May 11th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thornton Funeral Centre, 1200 Thornton Road North in Oshawa, ON. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at Kingsview United Church, 505 Adelaide Avenue East, Oshawa, with visitation one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the Oak Ridges Hospice, Kingsview United Church or a charity of your choice.

Until we meet again and forever in our hearts.
