W.MARTIN, Pastor Amsey W. Martin
He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the age of 97.

Born on June 4, 1929, in Peel Township, Amsey was the son of the late Enoch F. and Elizabeth (Weber) Martin.

Pastor Amsey W. Martin was the devoted husband of 72 years to Leona Martin, with whom he shared a lifetime of faith, love, and commitment to family. He was a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose gentle guidance and unwavering love will be deeply missed.

He leaves behind his loving children: Sharon Heyer and her children Kristi, Brandon (Kricia), and Nathan (Laura); Carolyn Jantzi (Jim) and their children Andrew (Jenny), Tyler, and Jarret (Lissette); Steve Martin (Karen Partidge) and his children Cedric (Alyse) and Cecilia (Lennox); and Sheldon Martin (Judith) and their children Nicholas (Daham), Camille (Bowen), and Yvonne.

He was the proud great-grandfather of Lewa, Toby, Gemma, Annie, Will, Quinn, Max, Emilia, Calia, and Ferran.

Amsey is also lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank Martin (Paula), as well as by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Shirley Martin; his son-in-law, David Heyer; his sisters Leah (Emmanuel) Frey, Maryann Wideman (Alvin and Manassah), Lovina (Ernie) Bearinger; his brothers Ervin (Susannah), Enoch Martin, Moses (Mary and Angeline), Edwin (Susannah), and Herman (Minerva); and his sister-in-law Grace Martin.

Amsey dedicated more than fifty years of his life to serving as an ordained pastor within the Mennonite community. His ministry was marked by compassion, humility, and a sincere desire to serve others. He found great joy in helping people, offering encouragement, and faithfully sharing God’s Word throughout his life.

Music was one of Amsey’s greatest passions. Whether singing, worshipping, whistling, yodeling or enjoying the fellowship of others through music, it brought him great happiness and was an important part of his life and ministry.

Above all, Amsey will be remembered as a man of deep faith, quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and his church. His legacy of love, service, and faithfulness will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
