Peter (Pete) William Kelly passed away on July 29th, 2025 in Aurora, Ontario. Born in Toronto to Martin and Evelyn (née Shorkey) Kelly, Pete was the youngest of 10 children in a blended family. He grew up on Linsmore Crescent in East York and attended St. Brigid Catholic School and St. Michael’s College School, where he played varsity hockey as a goaltender.

He later played for Rolph Clark Stone and helped lead the Rolarks to the ’56-’57 East End Industrial Hockey League Championship. Pete attended the University of Michigan and played for the NCAA Wolverines before marrying his beloved wife Betty Ann Kelly (née Toms) and settling in Aurora in 1966 to raise their family of eight children.

Pete played hockey with several teams including the Aurora Old Timers, Old Sweats, Esso Old Colts, and the Church Dodgers, and was an avid golfer and senior club champion at Westview Golf Club. He also enjoyed bowling, billiards, cards, live horse racing, and was a regular at Pete’s perch at TJ’s in Aurora.

He is survived by his children: Terry Kelly, Martin Kelly, Mary Beth Kelly (John Ramsell), Tim Kelly (Erica Neuman), Maureen Kelly (Peter Weber), Martha Kelly, and Dan Kelly (Lauren Kelly née Murphy), along with fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pete was predeceased by his wife Betty Ann, daughter Kate Cooney (née Kelly), Hillary “Ginny” Twigg, and Aurora Harrison.

The family thanks the dedicated PSWs and staff at Kingsway Place Retirement Residence.

Visitation will be held at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge St., Richmond Hill on Thursday, August 7th from 2:00–4:00pm and 6:00–8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will take place Friday, August 8th at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15347 Yonge St, Aurora at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund.
