John David Morris (“Moon”) passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side on June 28, 2025 after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer.
John is predeceased by his parents Don and Dorothy Morris and his father-in-law Thomas Murphy. He is survived by his wife Patricia and their daughter Victoria Gough and her husband Thomas. John was a very proud and loving “Moonpa” to his grandson George. He will be greatly missed by his mother-in-law Christobel Murphy and his brothers and sisters and their spouses Paul and Susan, Anne and Gregg, Jane, Lynn and John, Dawn and Jay, Glen and Susan together with his many nieces and nephews and their families.
John will be forever remembered as someone who cared deeply about his family and friends and was never too busy to lend a hand wherever he could. He loved a good time and his happiest moments over the years were spent in his backyard in Whitby with Pat and their dogs, at “Chief’s shop” with his brothers and friends, visiting Ed and Wendy Bons at their home on Lake Superior and playing poker with the guys at Snuffy’s place.
The family would like to thank Dr. Smerdon for her exceptional care of John during his treatment and members of the DRCC palliative team who helped make it possible for John to spend his final days at home surrounded by family and friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Bowmanville Legion, 109 King Street East on Thursday, July 3rd from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation to The Terry Fox Foundation, Lakeridge Health Foundation or charity of your choice.
