With heavy hearts, the family of Patrick (Rick) William McAleer announce his passing. Rick was born on March 22nd, 1948, in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Earl James McAleer and Patricia Jane (Dowling) McAleer. Rick passed peacefully with his wife, Susan Elizabeth (Sedgwick), by his side on April 22nd, 2025. Rick and Susan spent 55 wonderful years together and had three children, Patrick (Laura), Matthew, and Meaghan (Matthew). He was the proud grandfather of Ronan James, Isla Elizabeth, and a baby boy on the way.
Rick was the second oldest of 13 children, preceded by brothers Earl and Gary. He will be sadly missed by his 11 siblings: Michael (Paula), Lindsay (George), John (Robin), Kenneth (Kim), Peter (Debbie), Terrence (Lisa), James (Linda), Kathleen (Dan), Allison (Kevin), and Sean (Jaki). Rick was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and a cherished friend to many. He also lovingly remembered his three dogs, Max, Cash, and Tag, along with his adored cats Smokey, Jasper, and Mom’s cat.
Rick was a dedicated, long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a true fan of the blue and white, always cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he had a fondness for Labatt Blue beer.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Harmony Hills for their excellent care and compassion. A special thanks goes to Ed Hayward, a friend of decades, for all his love and support to both Rick and Susan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
All are invited and welcome to join the Celebration of Life for Rick, which will take place on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1, 243 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto, ON M4L 3B4.
