It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Henry Farrington, who passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, in Orillia, Ontario, at the age of 74. Born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 4, 1952, Peter lived a life defined by kindness, hard work, humour, and an unwavering willingness to help others. Peter was the beloved husband of 37 years to Karen Nahirniak (née Terris). He was a devoted and loving father to Ilene Sova (Byron Armstrong), Victoria Farrington (Nick Walmsley), Simon Farrington, and a caring stepfather to Paul Nahirniak (Ashley Nahirniak) and Michael Nahirniak. He was a proud grandfather to Alexander Nahirniak, Tyler Nahirniak, Madyson Dohler and Zayylinn Sova Armstrong, each of whom brought him immense joy. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Alfonso “George” Farrington and Leona McDonald; his stepmother, Helen Farrington; and his brother, Thomas Farrington. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Grace Black (Mike Black), Scharlene Farrington, and Patsy Jackson; his brother, Ross Jackson; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his warmth, humour, and generous spirit. A gifted mechanic by trade, Peter spent over 30 years at Thor Motors in Orillia, where he earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike. He wasn’t simply someone who repaired vehicles. He was the kind of person who would pull over without hesitation to help a stranded motorist. To many, he was the person you hoped would come along when you needed a hand. His generosity and willingness to help others became one of the defining qualities of his life. Peter had many passions. He was an avid music lover whose playlists ranged from Motown and Blues to Country Classics. He took great pride in his home, believing there was no substitute for a perfectly manicured lawn and immaculate curb appeal. He was also rarely seen without one of his signature fedoras or stylish hats, happily spending hours searching for just the right one. Those who knew Peter will remember his unmistakable gift for storytelling. Many of his tales began with the familiar words, “We gets in the car…”, leading friends and family into another hilarious adventure or delivering a perfectly timed joke. He had an extraordinary ability to make people laugh and to turn everyday moments into unforgettable stories. Peter also treasured the friendships he built around the poker table. As any good poker player knows, it’s not just the cards you’re dealt, but how you play the hand. Peter played his hand with generosity, humour, integrity, and heart, leaving behind friendships that will endure long after the final cards have been dealt. Above all, Peter will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor to many young mechanics, and friend. His kindness, quick wit, selfless spirit, and quiet acts of generosity touched countless lives. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, laughter, and the many lives he helped along the way will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street East Orillia on Sunday August 16th, 2026 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Peter’s memory to Mariposa House Hospice, whose compassionate care and support brought comfort to Peter and his family during his final days.
