It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nabil Fanous Abdel Malek, who passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, in Oshawa, Ontario, at the age of 90.
Nabil was born on April 27, 1936, in Ismailia, Egypt. He was a man of great energy, expression, and character. He was never shy about speaking his mind, and those who knew him will remember his strong personality, his quick wit, and his ability to bring laughter into everyday situations.
Nabil was a Christian who loved the Lord Jesus, and his faith was an important part of his life. He carried that faith with him throughout his journey and especially during the more difficult seasons of his life.
Before coming to Canada, Nabil worked as a teacher and superintendent in Egypt. In1994, he made the courageous decision to move to Canada in order to keep his family together. Starting over in a new country was not easy. He worked jobs that were far removed from the career he had known, doing whatever was necessary to remain in Canada and support his family. His willingness to sacrifice his own comfort and professional standing for his family reflected his determination, resilience, and love for them.
Nabil was a man who loved to laugh. He had a special gift for creating names for people based on their personalities, and he enjoyed finding the humor in situations—and sometimes in the people around him. His laughter, expressions, and unmistakable way of seeing the world will be deeply missed.
And, of course, there was his love of cars. Nabil had a special relationship with his cars, and his family would probably agree that sometimes he loved his cars almost as much as he loved his children. This became part of the family humor and one of the many things that made him uniquely Nabil.
Nabil leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda Abdel Malek.
He is lovingly remembered by his children,Ehab Fanous and his wife Pam Fanous, and Sally Armanious and her husband Hany Armanious.
He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Sylvia Van Impe and her husband Curtis Van Impe; Mark Fanous and his wife Ally Fanous; Rebekah Moss and her husband Nathan Moss; Hannah; Joshua; and Jacob, as well as his great-grandson, Jessy.
Nabil was also predeceased by his sisters Eva, Mary, Antoinette of Texas, USA, and Susan of Cairo, Egypt.
The final year of Nabil’s life was a difficult one, particularly as he and Linda were separated after Linda moved into long-term care. He missed her deeply, and the separation was a painful chapter for him. Yet the love and history they shared remained an important part of his life.
Nabil leaves behind a family who will remember not only the challenges he faced and the sacrifices he made, but also his laughter, his strong opinions, his expressive personality, his love of cars, and the many ways he brought his own unique spirit into their lives.
May he rest in the loving presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved and trusted.
He will be remembered. He will be missed. And he will always be part of the family he worked so hard to keep together.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday September 5th, 2026 at 11:00AM at Harmony Road Baptist Church located at 266 Harmony Road South Oshawa, Ontario.
