Enid Bernice Mountjoy (Blackburn)

Enid was born on July 6, 1928, and lived a long and interesting life, filled with family, friends, hard work, community, travel, and more than a few adventures along the way.She married her beloved husband, Murray Mountjoy, in 1951, and together they built their life and raised their three children on their dairy farm in Oshawa. Enid also worked as a nurse at Oshawa General Hospital, caring for others with the same warmth, strength, and compassion that she brought to her family and community.

Murray died in January 1990, but Enid carried on with the same independence and determination that had always been part of her character. She remained active in her church and community for many years, serving as an elder at Kedron United Church and volunteering with organizations including Habitat for Humanity and Doctors Without Borders.

But perhaps what made Enid especially memorable was her adventurous spirit. She travelled extensively and embraced experiences both near and far—from an Antarctic cruise and a remote fly-in resort in Nunavut to travelling to Australia in her 90s. She was also an avid knitter and quite skilled at wood carving, sharing her creations with her friends and family. Enid always approached life with enthusiasm, courage, and an eagerness to see what lay beyond the horizon.

Above all, Enid treasured her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Elaine Armstrong; sister-in-law Lois Blackburn; daughter Dianne Greenwood (Dr. John Greenwood); son Dale (Carlene) Mountjoy; and daughter Dr. Margo Mountjoy (Dr. Kevin Samson).

She was a proud grandmother to Jocelyn Greenwood, Marissa Greenwood, Kathryn Mountjoy, Carolyn (Kris) Gibbons, Holly (Owen) Boucher, April (Gary) Cafik, Moor (Julie) Samson, Keira (Christian) Samson, and Oz (Sidney) Samson, and a delighted great-grandmother to Gwendolyn and Clark Gibbons, Kenzie and Griffin Boucher, Tim and Sawyer Cafik, and Eddy Samson.

Enid will be remembered for her strength, independence, generosity, curiosity, and willingness to get involved. She worked hard, cared deeply about other people, stayed connected to her community, and made the most of the opportunities that came her way.

Most of all, she will be remembered by her family for being Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma—and for the many stories, memories, and experiences she leaves behind.

We were fortunate to have her with us for 98 years. She will be missed very much.
